ServiceTitan terms of service: who owns your jobs and the AI clause
Updated
ServiceTitan's terms of use are long, and four clauses decide what a contractor can later license: ownership, the licence it grants ServiceTitan, the franchise rule and the export period.
Does the contractor own the jobs?
Yes, as between the parties: ServiceTitan's terms of use say the customer owns and retains all right, title and interest in all customer data, including the intellectual property in it.
What does ServiceTitan keep a licence to do?
The customer grants a licence, running through the end of the export period, to host and use customer data to provide and improve the service, to train, tune and improve AI models solely to provide the service to that customer, and to create aggregate data. ServiceTitan says it will not use customer data to train models for any third party or for a model made generally available to other customers.
The franchise exception
Where an account is part of a franchise, the terms say the franchisor, not the franchisee, owns all customer data unless the franchise agreement provides otherwise. A franchised HVAC or plumbing business needs its franchisor's word before it licenses anything.
Getting the jobs out after you leave
After termination and on request, ServiceTitan will make commercially reasonable efforts to export the account's data, says service fees may apply, and is not obliged to keep it for more than 60 days. Its Open Data Pledge separately promises export to CSV format.
The rest of the board
ServiceTitan's privacy policy, data protection addendum and Open Data Pledge, and every other vendor's answers, are on the field service terms board, and who takes job records is on who buys job records for AI.
